On December 12, 2015, the 9th Conference of China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Innovation Achievements was held in Kunming, Yunnan province. “The development and application of a new type of artificial nerve conduit for the repair of peripheral nerve defect—Shen Qiao”, the project led by Prof. Liu Xiaolin from the Department of Microsurgery, Orthopedic Trauma and Hand Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, won the first prize of 2015 China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Innovation Achievement Award. As an excellent model of the innovation achievements at SYSU, the project has created good social and economic benefits, and has become an important example of the national innovation-driven development strategy.

The China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Innovation and Promotion Award includes four categories: Innovation Award, Promotion Award, Achievement Award and Outstanding Contribution Award. Approved by the National Office for Science & Technology Awards, this national award is established to commend the units and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration and Innovation. Among medical institutions and universities, only The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Peking Union Medical College won the first prize this year.
Prof. Xiao Haipeng, President and Party Secretary of The First Affiliated Hospital was invited to attend the conference. Prof. Liu Xiaolin and Prof. Zhu Qingtang received the award on behalf of the project team. Mr. Yang Yuexiong, General Manager of Guangzhou Zhongda Medical Equipment Co., Ltd, was also invited to attend the conference. The company was granted the production registration certificate of acellular nerve allograft artificial nerve conduit for the repair of nerve defect (Shen Qiao) in May 2012.
