"Shinning Guangdong, Blessing Motherland” –the lightning ceremony at Zhuhai Campus of SYSU, one of the serial activities for Guangdong youth to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of new China, co-organized by the provincial propaganda department, provincial committee of the Youth League and Southern Media Corporation (SMC), was held successfully at the No.5 and No.6 dormitories of Rongyuan on the evening of September 19th.

Around 9 o’clock that night, the Rongyuan Square of Zhuhai Campus had already been alive with students who were excited, waiting for the commencement of the lightning ceremony. At 9:30 sharp, with a loud whistle, the lights were turned on one after another, spreading brilliant rays in the sky and the words “CHINA I ? U” were inscribed on the walls of the NO.5 and NO.6 dormitories of Rongyuan. Students exclaimed with excitement, and with love and blessings to our great motherland in their hearts.

Twenty minutes later, cheers broke out again. The new words “1949-2009 60” brightened up. The “60”, created by the method of anti-selection of the lights, was surrounded by shinning lights, implying the great changes and the glorious process of the motherland over the past 60 years.

At the end of the ceremony, students showed the words “I ?中大" on the wall, expressing their gratitude to SYSU. In the meantime, students used candles to create a map of China on the Rongyuan Square. “Happy 60th birthday, my motherland. We students of SYSU love you forever.” They shouted the slogans, wishing the motherland to become more prosperous and more powerful.
