On March 10th, “High Art into Campus” Russian American Pianist Maria Nemtsova’s Concert, sponsored by SYSU Youth Association and organized by SYSU Student Chorus, started on time on East Campus.

The pianist Maria Nemtsova was accepted into the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2002, and she has successively won many major international prizes and achievements, including the Serebryakov Piano International Competition in Russia, International Concerto Competition in the USA, and International “Esecuzione Musicale” Piano Competition in Italy. Classical music In Rovereto once commented on her greatness as a concert performer, “The program was particularly diverse and allowed one to appreciate the pianist’s technical and interpretative qualities ...”

Once the information of the concert was released, it has attracted attentions of many teachers and students. On that afternoon, though there were still 3 hours left before the start of formal tickets distribution, many students had queued up with bread and water. At 6:40 pm, the staff started to distribute tickets, and 300 tickets were all distributed in just 10 minutes. When the concert started, those students who did not get the ticket still waited orderly in line outside the auditorium and were reluctant to leave for a long time. Some senior students who were late because they were writing their graduation thesis also hoped to go to the concert for the last time before graduation, even if they had to stand outside the door. Therefore, the staff had to add 60 seats in the passageway of the auditorium to allow as many students as possible to appreciate such an extraordinary concert.

The entire concert lasted for 70 minutes. First, Nemtsova played 3 harpsichord pieces, namely, “The Wild Man”, "Bird Calls” and "Tambourin Dance”. Then, she played several adapted piano pieces, including “The Serenade” and “Margaret at the Spinning Wheel” by Liszt, and “Symphonic Etudes” by Schumann. After every piece of music, the audience responded with warm applause. Moreover, the Chinese musical piece “Orchid”, specially prepared by the performer, has stuck the chord of many students present at the concert. Finally, Nemtsova ended up her performance successfully with delicate repertoire and exquisite skills.

After the concert, many students gave comments through mass media like Weibo and WeChat, hoping that the university will invite more well-known artists at home and abroad to SYSU in the future and organize more art activities loved by students to cultivate their temperament and improve their artistic culture. “High Art into Campus” provides an effective platform for SYSU students to encounter world classical culture and outstanding traditional culture, increases precious opportunities of theater practice for students, and builds a bridge of friendship for international communication.

It is learned that on the night of March 21th, Trio Arcadis from France will come to SYSU to offer a musical feast to teachers and students.
