In April this year, the 4th “Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month” of the School of International Studies of SYSU was smoothly held. The Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month this year selected top 20 dormitories from over 500 ones at first, and then in the final round with the theme of “ Limited Space, Unlimited Warmth”, eleven “Top Ten Model Dormitories” represented by Liyuan No. 7-233 and nine “Model Dormitories” represented by Liyuan No. 7-219 were finally elected through students’ collective voting.
Tidy sanitation condition, meticulous decoration and warm atmosphere of the nominated dormitories got all judges’ admiration; dedicate and beautiful wall paintings, vigorous calligraphy and neatly structured gatepost couplets showed the unlimited creativeness of SIS students. In the final round, top 20 dormitories made best of their creativeness and employed different skills to show their dormitories’ culture construction result in both pictures and words to everyone.

Warmly decorated “pink home”
As the closing ceremony of Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month, the “SIS Dormitory Director Training Conference 2013 & Commendatory Conference of the 4th Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month” was also held. Excellent dormitory representatives of SIS shared their experience as dormitory directors about “dormitory culture and harmonious atmosphere construction”. During the sharing time, all excellent dormitory directors stated that a dormitory director plays an indispensable leading role in building a comfortable, warm studying and living environment. Things like how to promote communication and ease contradictions, how to promote friendly atmosphere to enable roommates to help mutually and make progress together all worth dormitory directors’ careful planning and deep reflection. Besides, they took their personal experiences as examples to show people different kinds of feasible suggestions which are fully beneficial to all present dormitory directors.
The conference also invited Mr. Li Baoshan from Mental Health Education & Counseling Center to give students a special speech on "Dormitory and Mental Health”. Attended teachers and president of the Student Union together awarded honored certificates to winning dormitories of the 4th Dormitory Splendor Competition.
The Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month aims at advocating students to build harmonious dormitory culture and exhibit dormitory splendor so as to teach the 500 dormitories of SIS to “choose what is good and follow it”, and strengthen dormitory director training and improve the warmth in dormitory. It is reported that according to seasonality and regularity of students’ growth and mental health, SIS student affairs team holds “Do sport, Be happy” Sports Month activity, and the Dormitory Culture Exhibition Month activity in March and April every year to promote the construction of harmonious dormitory and campus.
