From April 17 to 18, The 1st National University Students Basic Medical Experiment Design Contest, jointly held by the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center Association, Basic Medicine Education Branch of China Higher Medical Education Association as well as Basic Medicine Major and Course Teaching Advisory Committee of Ministry of Education, and undertaken by School of Basic Medicine of Peking University, took place at Peking University. About 180 undergraduate students from over 30 medicine schools joined in the contest. The contest brought out 7 first prizes, 21 second prizes and 37 third prizes.

SYSU selected 7 students to compete in the contest and all of them got prizes. Among them, Yang Wan, 2006 eight-year clinical medicine student of Zhongshan Medical School, got the first prize; Chen Xu, 2006 five-year clinical medicine student, the second place; Lin Xiaolei, 2006 student of School of Public Health, the third prize; Gu Minghui and Yu Xiling, 2005 eight-year clinical medicine students of Zhongshan Medical School, as well as Zhu Yue and Zhong Qinghua, 2006 eight-year clinical medicine students got the "Excellence Award".
