The 3rd South China Social and Economic Survey (Guangdong-Hong Kong collaboration project), cohosted by School of Geography and Planning of Sun Yat-sen University and Chung Chi College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, was rounded off on the morning of August 10. Led by the teachers, twenty students from the two universities conducted the “Urban Planning and Development — A Survey in Hong Kong and Guangzhou” from July 29 to August10. During the two-week survey, the students visited the most representative landscapes of the two cities and gave a final presentation about the survey in CUHK.
The students were touring the City Gallery in Hong Kong.
This survey was conducted in Guangzhou and Hong Kong by five groups on the themes of “Education and Human Resource Cultivation”, "Population Policy", "Land Supply and Housing", "Economic Transformation" and “Urban Relics and Culture Protection”. During the Guangzhou leg of the survey (July 29 - August 3), the members visited GAC HONDA, The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO), Donghaochong, Shangxiajiu and Zhujiang New Town, and listened to the lecture given by Professor Lin Geng and Professor Li Fan of SYSU on the “integration of Guangzhou and Foshan” and “relics protection in Foshan” respectively. Then during the Hong Kong leg (August 4 - August 10), the members visited Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Museum of History and Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum, and listened to lectures given by Professor Dongshu Ou, Professor Yongqin David Chen and Dr. Yan Wai Hin of CUHK respectively on “education and migration”, "sustainable development in China from the view of development in the Pearl River Delta" and “economic development in Hong Kong: transformation and challenge”. The members gained a lot from the discussions and exchanges.
After the survey, five groups of the team will cooperate to finish the final written report.
Through this project, students from Guangzhou and Hong Kong have a better understanding of each other, thus prompting further exchanges and collaborations between SYSU and CUHK.
