The 2nd national competition of Praxair-Enactus China Youth Green Sustainability Program was held in Shanghai on February 28, 2014. Through fierce competition, the project “Orange County” of the team Enactus SYSU outshined other projects and won the national champion.
Enactus (SIFE), a nonprofit non-governmental international organization made up of college students, academics and business leaders, co-hosted the competition with Praxair China, a world leading gas supplier. Together they had a splendid vision, that is, to make a positive impact by enabling progress through entrepreneurial action and make the world a better place.
Since its start in 2013, this competition has received applications from over 50 teams in X’ian, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Beijing and Nanjing. About one thousand college students participated in the public-spirited program, which gave them a practical opportunity to design and implement a series of community projects and tackle the environmental and economic challenges with their innovations. Nine teams were selected to execute their projects.

At the national competition in Shanghai, four universities (Sun Yat-sen University, Shantou University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and Shanghai University of Electric Power) stood out in the first round of project presentations to contend for the top three. Finally, “Orange County” of Enactus SYSU topped the competition with its outstanding execution and impressive presentation.
"Orange County" aims at reusing the discarded orange flesh in Xinhui, Guangdong for technology improvement in agriculture and product development in certain fields. The project successfully integrated resources from farmers, factories and colleges to solve this problem. Dr. Minda Ho, president of Praxair China, indicated that “Orange County” embodied the motto of Praxair — “Making our planet more productive”, and the business model built by students from Sun Yat-sen University brought economic, environmental and social benefits for the local community.
