Recently, the Student Affairs Office of School of Foreign Languages (FLS) conducted Phase Two of College Student Leadership Program ——Into Cisco China. Over 30 FLS students from South Campus and Zhuhai Campus participated in it. They were accompanied by three teachers, Mr. Cao Xin, Deputy Party Secretary of Faculty of Foreign Languages and International Studies, Ms. Dong Wan and Ms. Chen Qiongzhi.
Arriving at Cisco China at Zhongtai International Square in Guangzhou, the group was warmly greeted by Mr. Su Quandao, a Class of 1994 alumni from Department of Physics, SYSU. During the visit, Mr Su introduced the background and development of Cisco to the visitors. Later, students were shown into a conference room with Cisco Telepresence System installed. Seated in the room in Guangzhou, students had easy access to face-to-face communication with the commentator in Beijing. Famous for its stable network, vivid voice and instant file sharing, holographic technique delayed no information.
At the end of the visit, Mr. Su shared his working experience with students. He inspired them to look far ahead and make life plans earlier, to quest and analyze valid information, and to conduct efficient communication. His humorous and profound presentation engaged everyone in thinking about their life plans and life attitudes. The display of working condition in a foreign corporation also helped students who were hunting for jobs come to a better understanding of IT industry, the type of enterprise, and the society.
Students said they learnt a lot from this program. It allowed them to fully understand the corporate culture of a Fortune 500 enterprise in the world. The program also provided them with an opportunity to observe a company’s operation, to listen to a senior manager’s talk, and to feel the charm of frontier technology in an outstanding enterprise.
