On the afternoon of June 22, 2017, Mr Chua Teng Hoe, Consul-General of the Singapore Consulate-General in Guangzhou, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Professor Xiao Haipeng, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus. Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU, also attended the meeting.

Vice President Xiao Haipeng extended a warm welcome to Consul-General Chua Teng Hoe, and introduced SYSU’s disciplinary layout and campus construction. He said that SYSU has conducted different levels of cooperation with universities in Singapore in scientific research as well as faculty and student exchange. The two sides have great potential for future cooperation, especially in engineering, marine sciences, medical sciences, geography and planning.
Consul-General Chua Teng Hoe said that he was glad to visit SYSU. He pointed out that Singapore has established close cooperation with Guangdong Province in the fields of education, culture, science and technology. He expressed the hope to take this opportunity to learn more about SYSU’s disciplinary strengths and development, and provide support for the cooperation between SYSU and universities in Singapore. The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation through the platform of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.
Mr Chua Teng Hoe graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Science (Strategic Studies) from the Nanyang Technological University. He was the Deputy Director-General of Northeast Asia Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2016. He is the Consul-General of the Singapore Consulate-General in Guangzhou since February 2016.
