On the afternoon of December 7, 2017, a five person delegation from the University of Warwick, led by Vice President Lawrence Young, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU).

SYSU Vice President Li Mengfeng led a reception and cooperation meeting for the visiting delegation at Zhongshan Building on SYSU’s Guangzhou South Campus. Vice President Li welcomed the delegation on their visit to SYSU and briefed the guests on recent initiatives at SYSU, including the campus construction and disciplines development. He mentioned that the two universities have established long-term research cooperation in medicine and that cooperation projects in business education are also progressing well. He expressed his hope that the two universities will be able to expand cooperation to new fields, such as liberal arts and humanities.
Prof. Lawrence Young expressed his support for utilizing the two universities’ existing partnership as a base for expanding collaboration to new fields. He suggested that both sides could explore new areas for potential cooperation, including data science, chemistry, and linguistics, among other areas.
SYSU representatives at the meeting also included Prof. Zhang Yanmei, Vice Dean of the School of International Studies; Prof. Dai Fan, Head of the Department of English at the School of Foreign Languages; Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange; and others. The University of Warwick was founded in 1965. The university is primarily based on a 290 hectare campus on the outskirts of Coventry, England and is organized into four faculties—Arts, Medicine, Science and Social Sciences. Warwick has around 25,600 full-time students and 2,400 academic and research staff, and consistently ranks in the top ten of all major domestic rankings of British universities. According to the QS World University Rankings for 2018, the University of Warwick ranks 57th in the world.
