On the afternoon of May 22
nd , 2019, a six-member delegation led by Professor Michele Bonino, Rector's delegate for relations with China of the Polytechnic University of Turin, and Ms. Francesca Leon, Torino city council member and Vice-Mayor, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Professor Yu Minbin, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, met with the guests in Grant Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. The two sides discussed mutual cooperation and exchange.
Professor Yu Minbin extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and introduced the campus construction and academic strengths of SYSU as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance. He pointed out that since last year’s meeting between SYSU President and Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin, the two universities have conducted cooperation and exchange in the fields of physics, astronomy, and automobile automation. He hoped that the two universities would enhance cooperation in the future.
Ms. Francesca Leon and Professor Michele Bonino introduced the city of Turin and the Polytechnic University of Turin respectively. Professor Michele Bonino said that the two universities have broad prospects of cooperation. The Polytechnic University of Turin attaches importance to cooperation with Chinese universities, and has set up a China Center in the university. One fourth of its international students come from China. The two sides can hold international seminars, workshops and student exchange programs in many academic fields to promote practical cooperation between the two universities.
After the meeting, the two sides held a university-level MoU signing ceremony. Professor Yu Minbin and Professor Michele Bonino signed the MoU on behalf of the two universities respectively.
Representatives from SYSU’s School of Physics and Astronomy, School of Intelligent Systems Engineering, School of Geography and Planning, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting and the signing ceremony.
Established in 1859, the Polytechnic University of Turin is a renowned public polytechnic university in Italy. It has strengths in civil engineering and technology, engineering and technology, architecture, electronics and electric engineering, materials science, computer science and information, and mechanical engineering. According to the 2019 QS World University Rankings, its engineering and technology ranks 33
rd in the world.
