On the afternoon of June 6, the unveiling ceremony of Red Cross Corneal Donation Society of Guangdong Province was held in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center. Lei Yulan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress and President of Guangdong Branch of Red Cross Society of China; Liang Jian, Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice President of Guangdong Branch of Red Cross Society of China; Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; Liao Xinbo, Deputy Director General of Department of Health of Guangdong Province; Chen Zechi, Member of Party Leadership Group and Deputy Inspector of Guangdong Branch of Red Cross Society of China; and Liu Yizhi, Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, attended the ceremony.

Professor Liu Yizhi, Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, pointed out that cornea donation is a hot issue and it is especially meaningful to establish the Corneal Donation Society on such a special day --- the National Eye Care Day. He said that, the Corneal Donation Society is established to spread the idea of “helping others and helping yourself” among the public. Moreover, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center will manage the Corneal Donation Society according to the standard in “Eye Bank Management” issued by the Ministry of Health. Relying on the technology and talent advantages of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, the Red Cross Corneal Donation Society of Guangdong Province will make fair and proper arrangements for patients who need cornea transplant. If the relatives of the citizens who have donated their corneas ever need cornea transplant, they can enjoy a preferential arrangement for surgery and the fees of corneal materials will be exempted.
