According to the “Notice on the result of 2013 study-in-China brand courses taught in English” released by the International Department of the Ministry of Education, the course of Infectious Diseases of The Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University has been selected into the list, which is another big achievement in the course construction, since it was named national quality course in 2009 and national bilingual model curriculum, and was rated Guangdong province teaching team in 2012.
The aim of the study-in-China brand courses taught in English is to implement the “national long-term education reform and development plan (2010-2020)” and the “study in China plan” of the Ministry of Education to create an international brand of foreign student education and enhance the quality of education. The brand courses are selected from courses taught in English designed for foreign students or domestic students in universities and colleges nationwide. SYSU has two courses selected, including Infectious Diseases and Medical Statistics.
The course of Infectious Diseases of The Third Affiliated Hospital was created by the renowned teacher — Professor Zhu Shihui in 1954. After over half a century and through the pursuit of several generations, the course has become a well-known professional discipline at home and abroad for its comprehensive development in teaching, medicine, scientific research, personnel training and impressive achievement.
Infectious Diseases has a history of over 30 years of full English teaching since 1982, and has achieved good teaching results. English teaching is used in full English classes, both written and oral English examination system are established for these students. For foreign students in full English classes, clinical practice teaching is implemented in English, students are required to complete medical records in English. Bilingual teaching is adopted in the five-year program and is popular among the students. Under the organization and arrangement of the department, and through the collaboration of the entire teaching team, especially young teachers in their co-teaching, the English teaching level and discipline construction have improved. The Infectious Diseases teaching team has gradually developed into a teaching team which can fully assume full English and bilingual teaching tasks with international standards.
