From August 22 to August 25, a 7-person expert group led by Secretary Yu Minbin and Deputy Secretary Pan Yunhua of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University went to The First People’s Hospital in Kashi Prefecture (hereinafter referred to as “the Hospital”) to discuss the work of medical aid to Xinjiang and ways to strengthen friendly cooperation. Experts and professors including Yu Minbin, L? Lin, Wang Zhichong, Yi Changxian, Yuan Zhaohui (former aiding-Xinjiang cadre), and Gu Jianjun (current aiding-Xinjiang cadre), gave lectures to members of the Xinjiang Ophthalmic Class.

On the afternoon of August 23, the expert group visited the Hospital and had a meeting with the leaders. Ding Ruxin, Deputy President of the Hospital, expressed sincere gratitude to Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center for the pairing assistance. In particular, two aiding-Xinjiang doctors Yuan Zhaohui and Gu Jianjun played a crucial role in the Hospital’s efforts to become a grade-three class-A hospital and its ophthalmology to become a key specialty in Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
Secretary Yu Minbin said that the pairing assistance is indeed a win-win for both the Hospital and the aiding-Xinjiang doctors. In talent training, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center can offer 3-6 months of subspecialty training for young ophthalmic doctors, and organize a national level continuing education class on ophthalmology in the Hospital once a year. In scientific research, projects on the prevention and treatment of common ophthalmic diseases in Kashi can be conducted through the open platform of the State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology.
On August 24, the Xinjiang Ophthalmic Class was held in the multifunctional academic hall of The Hospital. Experts from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center including Yu Minbin, L? Lin, Wang Zhichong, Yi Changxian, Yuan Zhaohui, and Gu Jianjun gave lectures to the students respectively.
During their visit in Kashi, Secretary Yu Minbin, Professor Wang Zhichong and Professor L? Lin provided demonstrations on glaucoma surgery, lacrimal surgery and vitrectomy respectively, which were observed by the backbone doctors of ophthalmology in the Hospital.
