A teach-in about Sun Yat-sen University - Johns Hopkins University (SYSU-JHU) collaborative program was successfully held on North Campus on September 6 to provide detailed information about the objectives and contents of the program for the investigators and doctors. The teach-in , which was intended to demonstrate SYSU’s initiatives and dedication to the development of clinical research, was sponsored by SYSU-JHU collaborative program workgroup and co-organized by Faculty of Medical Sciences and Office of Medical Science. More than 300 people, including research administrators, doctors, research nurses and medical students, participated in the teach-in.
Professor Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU, gave a speech in the conference. He said that it’s important and necessary for SYSU to collaborate with JHU, one of the leading institutes in clinical research in the world. He hoped that doctors and researchers in the affiliated hospitals would be dedicated to the collaborative program and become the main force for the development of clinical researches at SYSU.
Professor He Mingguang, leader of the SYSU-JHU collaborative program workgroup and deputy director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, introduced the background and development of the collaborative program. He also introduced the three core sections of the program including training and education, cooperative research (pilot project) and clinical research infrastructure assessment. Associate Professor Gu Jing from the School of Public Health, as one of the first train-the-trainer fellows visiting JHU, introduced and shared her experience of investigators’ training program in JHU. Professor Weng Jianping, Vice President of The Third Affiliated Hospital, showed his support and expectation for the collaborative program.
The 2-year-long first stage of the collaborative program aims to establish an international, systemic, university-level clinical and translational research center, through the hard work on human resource development, scientific training and systemic infrastructure construction. SYSU and JHU have reached an intensive consensus and formed a close partnership ever since the start of the collaborative program. This November, JHU will bring their excellent training program on clinical research to SYSU and hold one-month on-line courses and one-week on-site courses for the SYSU investigators and coordinators, which would become a brand course in SYSU.
