After nearly 8 months of trial operation, Huiya Hospital of The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University officially opened on November 12, 2013. In the morning, Huang Yebin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress and Chairman of Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions; Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Geng Qingshan, Deputy Director of Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province; Mai Jiaomeng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Huizhou; Liu Yaohui, Chairman of the CPPCC Huizhou Municipal Committee; Chen Xunting, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee; Chen Shiqi, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Huizhou Municipal People’s Congress; Liu Guanxian, Vice Mayor of Huizhou; Huang Zhizhong, Secretary-General of Huizhou Municipal People’s Government; Xu Guoan, Deputy Secretary-General of Huizhou Municipal People’s Government; Wang Shenming, President of The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Xiaolin, President of Huiya Hospital of The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University.

Wang Shenming, President of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, delivered a speech at the beginning of the ceremony. He said that after three years of preparation, with persistent efforts of the builders and government at all levels, Huiya Hospital successfully opened. The First Affiliated Hospital will live up to the expectations of all walks of life, set a high starting-point and strict requirements, and carry forward its fine traditions and service ideas in Huiya Hospital. The First Affiliated Hospital will send more experts and build Huiya Hospital into a Level-3-Grade-A hospital, offering high-quality health care services to the local people.
Vice Mayor Liu Guanxian said that the opening of Huiya Hospital is a significant event which shows the great support of The First Affiliated Hospital for Huizhou’s medical and health services. He hoped that SYSU and The First Affiliated Hospital will provide more support for Huizhou and Daya Bay District with regard to talent cultivation, technological support and management.
Deputy Director Geng Qingshan said that the joint establishment of the new hospital by SYSU and Huizhou City is an effective measure to deepen health care reform, and a good attempt to solve the difficulty of getting medical services.
During his speech, Secretary Zheng Detao said that the construction and opening of Huiya Hospital would be impossible without the support of Huizhou government at municipal and district levels, the local people and Huang Yebin, the then Secretary of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee. The First Affiliated Hospital, with a history of more than 100 years, takes the lead in SYSU’s medical team, and it can build Huiya Hospital well. He said that SYSU will offer strong support for Huiya Hospital in terms of talent team and discipline construction, and he believed that Huiya Hospital will be better under the leadership of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee, Huizhou Municipal People’s Government, the CPC Daya Bay District Committee and Daya Bay District People’s Government.
As the initiator of this project, Vice Chairman Huang Yebin said that Huiya Hospital is a product of university-city cooperation, and the greatest beneficiary is the local public. Daya Bay District positions itself as a world-class petrochemical base, so it needs strong supporting services and qualified hospitals. This is a win-win opportunity. He hoped that Huizhou will strengthen the construction of Huiya Hospital as part of its plan to comprehensively deepen reforms, and SYSU will regard this university-city cooperation project as a priority among priorities. He asked the government at municipal and district levels and local enterprises to pay attention to the work and life of the staff members of Huiya Hospital.
After the ceremony, accompanied by the leadership of Huiya Hospital, the leaders and guests visited the hospital and extended their regards to the experts and professors sent by The First Affiliated Hospital to participate in the free weekly clinic in Huiya Hospital.
