The 19th Congress of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) was held on May 3-8, 2015 at Melbourne, Australia (http://www.isham2015.com.au/). Founded in 1954, ISHAM is a worldwide organization that represents all clinical scientists and fundamental researchers with interest in fungal diseases and fungus-like infections. Twenty three national medical mycology associations are affiliated with ISHAM. The society is a properly recognized non-governmental affiliate of the World Health Organisation (WHO), and organizes an international congress every three years.

Associate Professor Feng Peiying (Department of Dermatology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University) is the convener of ISHAM Chromoblastomycosis working group. She was invited to the congress and gave presentation on the topic of “Melanin provokes Fonsecaea monophora exhibiting reduced susceptibility to azoles”. Chromoblastomycosis is one of the most prevalent and highly mutilating (sub)cutaneous diseases in tropical and subtropical climate zones, which is very difficult to cure. Fonsecaea monophora is the main pathogen of chromoblastomycosis in southern China. There was an open and active discussion among participants focusing on the updated research of chromoblastomycosis, which will promote research, international cooperation and other scientific activities in the coming future.
