Prof. Haiqiang Mai from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center Receives the First Nobel Prize Star in Clinical Medicine

Initiated in 2014 by Nobel Laureates, the Nobel Prize Laureate Summit is a high-profile annual summit in China.

On May 8th, 2015 in Tianjin, China, five Nobel Prize Laureates and the world's top scientists met, for an unprecedented Summit, exchanging research data, advances, and promising projections related to the prevention, identification, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer worldwide. Known as the "2015 Nobel Prize Laureate Summit on Biomedical Science: Frontiers in Cancer Research," the Summit organizers declared the event's mission: "To bring the world's most eminent scientists together to China, to both organize and improve collaborative efforts with their counterparts; as well as inspire a new generation of young students and scientists creating innovative solutions to cancer treatment and cures."

For this second edition, a number of important figures attended and gave lectures to prominent scientists from China; 5 Nobel laureates, 16 academy members, state leaders, government officials, executive chairmen and CEOs of financial investment companies.

This 2015 NPLS was hosted by the Chinese Association for Traditional Chinese Medicine, the International Society of Scientific Communications for Nobel Prize Laureates and the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. The first NPS award was given to 9 distinguished Chinese Young Scientists from 4 different areas — clinical medicine, preclinical medicine, translational medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy.

Prof. Haiqiang Mai, a senior oncologist from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, was awarded the first Nobel Prize Star (NPS) for clinical medicine. He is the first and the only NPS winner in the area of clinical medicine.

The NPS award is given to Chinese Young Scientists to encourage innovative medical thought for the creation of new medical ideas, impactful contributions made in medical research, and distinctive relief offering made in cancer research. The NPS event could become a bridge between NPS winners and the Nobel Laureates, who will try their best for the human beings’ future together!
