On August 26, 2016, Shenzhen Futian District People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) signed an agreement to jointly build The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Shenzhen.
The attendees of the signing ceremony included Ma Xingrui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee; Xu Qin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shenzhen; Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Luo Jun, President of SYSU; Yu Minbin, Vice President of SYSU; Cheng Huanwen, Yang Qinghua and Luo Teng, Assistant Presidents of SYSU; Xiao Yafei, Party Chief of Futian District; Gao Shengyuan, District Mayor of Futian District; Xia Yang, Deputy District Mayor of Futian District; Wu Guifu, President of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU; and Xia Zhihua, Party Secretary of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU.

Before the signing ceremony, the group from Futian District and SYSU inspected the construction site at the hospital and held a seminar. Wu Guifu presented a work report of the hospital. Xia Zhihua remarked that the hospital will achieve a leap-forward development after being included in the directly affiliated hospital system of SYSU. Xia Yang reviewed the hospital’s collaborations with SYSU in recent years. Xiao Yafei expressed that The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU will provide high-quality, effective and convenient medical services for Shenzhen people. Luo Jun pointed out that with Futian People’s Hospital renamed as The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the big family of SYSU will have a brighter future. The hospital will make use of Shenzhen’s good innovation environment and SYSU’s medical strengths to build a modern comprehensive Grade III Class A hospital with high-level capabilities in healthcare, teaching and research.

The group also attended a routine meeting of the hospital. Luo Jun talked about the future development of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital from the aspects of running scale, key specialties and talent introduction. He said that SYSU will shoulder the responsibility, gather ideas to push forward the construction of a world-class university, and provide strong support for The Eighth Affiliated Hospital.
After the meeting, Gao Shengyuan and Luo Jun signed the agreement on behalf of Futian District People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University respectively. Ma Xingrui, Xu Qin, Chen Chunsheng and Luo Jun unveiled the plaque of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
Futian People’s Hospital was among the first group of hospitals built in Shenzhen. It signed a cooperation agreement with The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in 2013. Now, it is renamed as The Eight Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and included in the directly affiliated hospital system of SYSU. By December 2017, The Eighth Affiliated Hospital will complete phase I construction, building 1,000 beds and relevant supporting facilities; by June 2019, phase II construction will be completed, old buildings will be renovated and 1,500 beds will be opened. By June 2018, the hospital will become a Grade III Class A hospital. Meanwhile, The Eighth Affiliated Hospital will establish modern hospital management system, build high-level medical science and technology innovation platforms to promote the coordinated development of medicine, teaching, research and industry.
