The 2nd AMEE Training Courses organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University was opened in the Science & Technology Building on Guangzhou North Campus of Sun Yat-sen University on December 1, 2016. The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Ming Kuang, Vice President of the Hospital, And Prof. Haipeng Xiao, President of the Hospital, gave an opening address. More than 90 senior teaching faculty from The First, The Second and The Third Affiliated Hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University attended the opening ceremony.

The Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) has a great many registered member institutions from more than 90 countries and regions around the world. The Training Courses consist of 2 parts, namely ESME (Essential Skills in Medical Education) Course run by Prof. Trevor Gibbs, Development Officer of AMEE; and OSTE (Objective Structured Teaching Encounter) Course run by Prof. David Taylor, Reader in Medical Education at the University of Liverpool. Both courses are delivered in the form of PowerPoint presentations, group discussion, role playing, etc.

Prof. Haipeng Xiao points out that those who have completed the courses without absence, and passed the final assessment will be conferred a teaching certificate which will be considered to be a key criterion in promotion to Associate Professor and Professor.

The OSTE Course delivered this December is the first of its kind in The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. In fact, it is the first time for the OSTE Course, designed and developed by AMEE, to have been run outside of Europe, which marks a milestone for medical education in China.
