Hosted by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM) and organized by Sun Yat-sen University, the 6th International Conference on Fluid Mechanics (ICFM6) was held in Guangzhou from June 30th to July 3rd. ICFM was initiated and organized jointly by academician Shen Yuan, academician Zhuang Fenggan, and international authoritative scholars in Fluid Mechanics, namely Y.C.Fung (Feng Yuanzhen, US), S.Leibovich (US), H.Sato (Japan), and J. Zierep (Germany) who represented CSTAM of China, ASME and APS of US, JSFM and JSASS of Japan, and GAMM of Germany respectively. The conference has been a regular international meeting with its own system.


The conference opened in the morning of July 1st. Fu Song, the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference and professor from TsinghuaUniversity, hosted the opening ceremony. Li Jiachun，the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chairman of the Academic Committee of the Conference,; Prof. Wei Minghai , the assistant to the President of Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. T.E. Tezduyar, the celebrated expert in Fluid Mechanics and representative of ASME and Prof. Zhou Zhewei, the Managing Vice President of Shanghai University and representative of Wang Kuancheng Fund all delivered ebullient speeches and expressed wishes for the great success of the Conference.

On the morning of July 2nd, Prof. Xu Ningsheng, the academician of the ChineseAcademy of Sciences and President of Sun Yat-sen University, visited the experts and honored guests at the Conference, and communicated warmly with the experts. Experts who have attended the Conference also included: Zhou Heng, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference and academician from Tianjin University; Prof. W. SHyy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Prof. She Zhensu, Vice President of CSTAM and director of the State Key Laboratory of Turbulence and Complex Systems of Peking University; Prof. Lin Jianzhong, President of China Jiliang University; Prof. Shen Qing Chief Engineer of the 11th Research Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Prof. Jiang Qing, president of the School of Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. Liu Hua, Deputy Dean of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and celebrated scientists, namely Prof. V.V. Kozlov, Prof. M. Asai, Prof. John Grue, Prof. A.A.Maslov. Prof.E.S.Oran. and Prof.N.D. Sandham.

On the afternoon of July 3rd, Pro. Zhan Jiemin, the co-chairman and secretary-general of the Organizing Committee from the Department of Applied Mechanics and Engineering of the School of Engineeing, Sun Yat-Sen University, ,delivered the closing speech, expressing thanks to all the experts, honored guests who had attended the Conference, as well as the teachers and students who had assisted in organizing the Conference, for their important contributions to the success of it.
