The Signing Ceremony of Sun Yat-sen University-Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited Strategic Cooperation and the Launching Ceremony of SYSU “Wanglaoji Cup” Persons of the Year 2012 Selection was held in Swasey Hall on South Campus on the afternoon of December 29, 2012. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Zhu Kongjun, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Li Chuyuang, General Manager of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GPHL); Li Hong, Assistant to General Manager of GPHL; Wu Changhai, Chairman of Wanglaoji Big Health Industry Co., Ltd.; Fang Guanghong, President of Guangzhou Wanglaoji Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., attended the ceremony. Persons in charge of relevant functional departments including Publicity Department, Student Affairs Office, Graduates Office, Office of Local Services and Industry-University-Research Cooperation, SYSU Youth Association, Career Development Counseling Center, Logistics Group; deputy secretaries, counselors and student representatives from various schools and departments, a total of over 300 people attended the signing ceremony.

It is learned that after friendly negotiations SYSU and GPHL formed strategic cooperative partnership in technology and product R&D, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and joint talent cultivation. Multiple consensuses were also reached by both sides including further strengthening industry-university-research cooperation; jointly building high level engineering research and development platforms such as provincial and ministerial engineering technology center, engineering laboratory, and industry-university-research demonstration base; and jointly promoting the industrialization of scientific and technological results. In the future, both sides will make use of their respective advantages and support each other in terms of brand communication, campus cultural activities, student entrepreneurship and employment, social practices and so on. The width, depth and level of university-enterprise cooperation will be promoted, thus realizing mutual benefits, cultivating more and better talents for the country and society, producing more and better social products and services and making new contributions to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Secretary Zheng Detao expressed sincere thanks to GPHL on behalf of SYSU. He said that GPHL deserved praise for its attention to education and talents. SYSU Persons of the Year Selection has become a brand to show that SYSU students are diligent and studious, warmhearted in promoting public good and ready to do boldly what is righteous. Naming the event as “Wanglaoji Cup” will increase its reputation and publicity. He hoped that the selection event would serve as an opportunity to discover good examples among SYSU students, to give full play to their leading role and create a positive atmosphere among university students.

GPHL General Manager Li Chuyuan pointed out that the new platform for talent cultivation and student entrepreneurship and employment, jointly built by GPHL and SYSU, would further enhance the development of production, education and research. He said that both sides shared the same goal of talent cultivation and the same idea about education. It was an inevitable coincidence that Yao Honghu, a student from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, SYSU, and Hu Yuedong, a staff member of GPHL together rescued a citizen from drowning in August, 2012.

During the signing ceremony, GPHL and SYSU established the SYSU-GPHL Award Fund for Persons of the Year Selection, and the selection event will be titled “Wanglaoji Cup” for the next three years. At the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Zhu Kongjun announced the official launch of the SYSU "Wanglaoji Cup” Persons of the Year 2012 Selection, thus drawing the curtain on the event.
