On August 6-8, President Xu Ningsheng led a delegation to Lhasa and Linzhi Prefecture in Tibet to inspect SYSU’s Aiding-Tibet projects. The delegates met with members of the national medical team of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU in Lhasa, and visited the Graduate Student Teaching Team of SYSU and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Characteristic Resources Scientific Workstation of SYSU in Linzhi Prefecture.

In Lhasa, President Xu Ningsheng met with Guojierti, Deputy Director-General of Tibet Health Department, who came from National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC); Wang Fei, Director of Medical Resources Division of Department of Medical Administration and Medical Service Supervision under NHFPC; and members of the national medical team of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, who would be going to Naqu Prefecture for a one-month medical aid work. On behalf of SYSU, President Xu Ningsheng expressed gratitude to NHFPC and Tibet autonomous region for their great support to SYSU’s national medical team, and said that SYSU would put more efforts in the medical support to Tibet. He thanked members of the national medical team and hoped that they could make contributions to the construction of local hospitals and the improvement of local medical services and management level.

Later, President Xu Ningsheng led the delegation to visit the “Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Characteristic Resources Scientific Workstation of SYSU” in Linzhi Prefecture and brought warm greetings to the scientific researchers. Located in a plateau area at an altitude of 4,156m, the Workstation was built in 2006 to conduct survey and research on sustainable use of Chinese caterpillar fungus, a characteristic resource of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. President Xu Ningsheng learned about the whole process of nurturing and growing the Chinese caterpillar fungus and toured the outdoor experimental field. During his discussion with the researchers, President Xu Ningsheng thanked them for staying in Tibet throughout the year for the aid and poverty reduction work of SYSU. He also said that SYSU would continue supporting the construction and operation of the Workstation and hoped that everyone would keep looking for new opportunities and directions in scientific research based on local characteristics.

The delegation led by President Xu Ningsheng arrived at The First High School of Linzhi Prefecture and extended warm greetings to members of the 14th and 15th Graduate Student Teaching Team of SYSU who were teaching in Linzhi. President Xu Ningsheng attentively listened to the explanations given by the team members and fully affirmed the work of SYSU Graduate Student Teaching Team in the past ten-plus years. As President Xu Ningsheng stated, next year would be the fifteenth anniversary of SYSU Graduate Student Teaching Team and the ninetieth anniversary of SYSU, the 15th Graduate Student Teaching Team undertook important missions and should play a greater role. He hoped that the team members would seize the opportunity to study and make progress in their pursuit of careers and ideals through the teaching experience. President Xu Ningsheng said that the teaching experience in western regions was an important point in life and the students should have a sense of honorable responsibility and a sense of mission. He hoped that the students could use their team spirit to help each other, follow the work arrangement of the schools, take the work seriously and get well prepared to enter the society.

During the inspection tour, President Xu Ningsheng also met with Zhao Shijun, Party Secretary of Linzhi Prefecture; Cai Jiahua, Executive Deputy Secretary of Linzhi Prefecture, Executive Deputy Commissioner of Administrative Office of Linzhi Prefecture and Leader of the Seventh Aiding-Tibet Team of Guangdong Province. On behalf of SYSU, President Xu Ningsheng expressed thanks to Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Guangdong Provincial Government and Party Committee of Linzhi Prefecture for their support of SYSU’s work of aiding Tibet, and promised that SYSU would make more efforts to support the work of aiding Tibet, endeavor to seek new opportunities and try to make greater contributions to the future development of Tibet.
