SYSU held work arrangement meeting on discipline development

On the afternoon of February 28, SYSU held a work arrangement meeting on discipline development on South Campus. Relevant leaders of the university, schools and affiliated hospitals, a total of nearly 200 people attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by President Xu Ningsheng. Vice President Zhu Xiping gave a speech on the challenges and opportunities of constructing a world-class university and academic disciplines. Director of Office of Development Planning and Discipline Construction Yang Qinghua gave an introduction to the recent work of the university. President Xu Ningsheng delivered concluding remarks.

President Xu Ningsheng pointed out that the purpose of the meeting was to deepen reform and accelerate the construction of disciplines. The university will design and launch discipline construction for the new era, enhance the features of first-grade disciplines, promote interdisciplinary integration, focus on doing big things, strengthen reform of mechanism and promote the overall development of disciplines. To achieve this goal, President Xu Ningsheng put forward concrete requirements. First, make comprehensive plans according to the internal law of discipline development. Second, improve the quality and level of disciplines, and pay special attention to the average contribution of every member. Third, focus on breaking the bottleneck of development and removing barriers to development. Fourth, the university will encourage and support big events to enhance the level of disciplines. Fifth, make rigid requirements, define goals and implement plans. Sixth, attach importance to international evaluation and make relevant preparations. Finally, President Xu Ningsheng hoped that schools, departments and affiliated hospitals would work together and make contributions to the development of disciplines in the university.
