On October 21, 2014, the 5th Management Committee of Board of Directors of Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (IFCEN) held the first meeting on Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU).

The meeting was hosted by Prof. Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU and Chairman of the Board of Directors. The attendees included Mr. Wei Zhonglin, Vice Director of Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU; Mr. Chen Tai, Deputy Director of Nuclear Power College, CGN (representing Mr. He Yu); Mr. Liu Zaizeng, Chief Officer of the Department of Energy, Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province (representing Mr. Zhang Zulin); Prof. Wang Biao, Chinese Dean of IFCEN; Prof. Brigitte Plateau, President of Grenoble INP and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors (also representing Prof. Pascal Dumy, Director of Ecole nationale supérieure de chimie de Montpellier); Mr. Pierre Béroux, Nuclear Counsellor to EDF President (also representing Mr. Marc Melka, Chief of Asia Bureau of Ministry of Higher Education and Research, France); Mr. Jean-Marie Bourgeois-Demersay, French Dean of IFCEN; Mr. Bertrand Mercier, CEA, Professor at INSTN; Mr. Anthony Chaumuzeau, Culture and Education Counselor of French Embassy in Beijing; Mr. Guo Jianlin, Vice General Manager of China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute; Mr. Antoine Zhang, Vice-President of Areva Asia-Pacific; and Mr. Christophe Bonté, Attaché of French Consulate in Guangzhou.

The committee members listened to IFCEN’s 2013-2014 work report on student study, graduation thesis, Chinese faculty training, the construction of R&D center, and the 2013 financial report of both sides, etc. They also discussed and approved the teachger recruitment plan, internship policy, application materials for CTI accreditation, industrial cooperation, etc. The Chinese and French members also exchanged ideas about signing a follow-up agreement between SYSU and FINUCI in 2016.

After the meeting, the attendees took a group photo with all IFCEN faculty and students. An award presentation ceremony for the best students was held in front of the Library. President Xu Ningsheng and President Brigitte Plateau delivered a speech respectively, encouraging the students to study hard and to enhance the friendship between China and France.

Then, the Unveiling Ceremony of SYSU-CGN Joint Research Center of Nuclear Safety and Emergency System was held in Chemistry Building. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU and Mr. Zhao Hua, General Chief Engineer of CGN unveiled the plaque of SYSU-CGN Joint Research Center of Nuclear Safety and Emergency System. Mr. Brigitte Plateau, Prof. Wang Biao, Mr. Jean-Marie Bourgeois-Demersay, Mr. Anthony Chaumuzeau and Mr. Chen Tai attended the ceremony.

Finally, accompanied by the French Dean and Chinese Dean of IFCEN, the French experts came to the new working area of IFCEN in F Zone of Teaching Building. They talked with the teachers, visited the new classroom, observed the class activities, etc. All the guests expressed their satisfaction and best wishes for the new development of IFCEN.

On October 20, IFCEN also held the 2nd Session of Development & Studies Council and the 2nd Session of Scientific Council.
