Academician Albert S. C. Chan appointed as Professor of SYSU and Director of the Academic Committee of SYSU

On July 26, 2015, Professor Albert S. C. Chan (CHEN Xinzi), Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Member of the CPPCC National Committee, was appointed as Professor of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Director of the Academic Committee of SYSU.
The attendees of the appointment ceremony included Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Luo Jun, President of SYSU, Huang Daren, Former President of SYSU, Qiu Guoxin, Director of the Publicity Department, Luo Teng, Director of the Human Resources Department, Huang Min, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), and Huang Zhishu, Party Secretary of SPS. The ceremony was presided over by Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU.

At the appointment ceremony, Former President Huang Daren introduced how Academician Albert S. C. Chan joined the SYSU community.
President Luo Jun welcomed Academician Albert S. C. Chan, and pointed out that his appointment is helpful for SYSU to achieve the strategic goal of developing into a world-class institution.
Secretary Zheng Detao emphasized that SYSU has always attached importance to the role of leading scholars in various fields, and the appointment of Academician Albert S. C. Chan will further promote the development of the University.
President Luo Jun and Dean Huang Min signed the appointment contract with Academician Academician Albert S. C. Chan on behalf of SYSU and SPS respectively. President Luo Jun presented the letters of appointment to Academician Albert S. C. Chan.

Academician Albert S. C. Chan, an internationally-renowned organic chemist, is the Honorary Founding Dean of SPS. He retired from the position of President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University at the end of June and came to work in SPS in July.
The appointment of Academician Albert S. C. Chan will help SYSU to build high-level innovation platform in pharmaceutical sciences, conduct innovative research on frontier scientific issues, set up the Institute of Materia Medica, SYSU, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements to serve local economy, and improve the academic influence of pharmaceutical sciences at SYSU through collaborations with top universities and research institutions.
