The final of the 6th Competition on Computer-Aided Translation and Technical Communication was held at Peking University on the afternoon of June 1, 2017. Two students from the School of International Studies, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) stood out from over 1,200 contestants and reached the final. Among them, Yang Jiwen won the second prize, and Tang Jie the third prize. SYSU was awarded the excellent organizing prize, and Dr. Luo Xuejuan received the excellent tutor prize.

In the final, 40 competitors from different universities were divided into eight groups, each of which was required to run a virtual company that offered virtual language services, write an English user manual for a software and design a localized version. Experts in language services asked each group questions after they had introduced their works to the audience.

Yang Jiwen won the second prize by making an English user manual for the Youdao Cloud Note with her teammates. Their method of usability test and applied example were thought as a highlight of their works. A judge suggested that other groups use the same method to test the usability of their own manuals.

Tang Jie received the third prize, whose group was admired for their careful consideration about the needs of customers. She and her teammates were also applauded for their enchanting company advertising video.

The competition is cosponsored by the Technical Communication Service Committee of China Association for Standardization, the Localization Service Committee of Translators Association of China, and the School of Software and Microelectronics of Peking University. Since 2012, it has been held successfully for the sixth consecutive section. This year, more than 1,200 students from over 170 colleges at home and abroad participated in the preliminary contest.
