Recently, the Society of Physics Students (SPS) in the United States announced the winners of the 2014 Outstanding Chapter Award. Sun Yat-sen University SPS Chapter (SPS-SYSU Chapter) has been recognized as an Outstanding SPS Chapter for 2013-2014. Sun Yat-sen University is the second university in China to join the SPS. Established in 2012, SPS-SYSU Chapter won the 2013 Distinguished SPS Chapter Award.

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a professional association explicitly designed for students. SPS was formed in 1968 with a constitution that combined its two "parent" organizations, The AIP Student Sections and the Sigma Pi Sigma honor society. SPS now has over 700 chapters.
