On July 30, 2018, Dr. Lingling Ye, professor from the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University, receives the 2018 Keiiti Aki Young Scientist Award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Established in 2008, the Keiiti Aki Young Scientist Award is given annually to an outstanding, early career seismologist in recognition of scientific accomplishments in the field of seismology. It will be presented at the AGU Fall Meeting in middle December at Washington DC.

Dr. Ye received her bachelor and master degrees in Geophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China and the Institute of Geophysics and Geology, Chinese Academic Sciences in 2008 and 2011, respectively. Before moving to the Sun Yat-sen University, she was a Director's postdoctoral fellow in the Seismological Laboratory at California Institute of Technology, after received her PhD from UC Santa Cruz in 2015. Her research interests include analysis of seismic waves to investigate the physics of earthquake faulting, structure of the Earth's deep interior and evaluation of controlling factors for natural hazards from earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides and so on. She is author or co-author of about 35 peer-reviewed papers, including one in Science, and two in Science Advances.
