On the morning of March 3, Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-Sen University—the unveiling ceremony of the Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province’s Statistics Research and Teaching Practice Base was held at the Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province. Director Xing Xiaowei of Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province, deputy director Peng QIpeng, dean Shu Yuan and vice dean Li Shenglan of Lingnan College, vice dean Hu Jianxun and Cheng Yuehua of School of Mathematics & Computational Science, professor Xu Xianxiang, professor Xia Nanxin and professor Zhou Xianbo of Linnan College, professor Wang Xueqin of School of Mathematics & Computational Science as well as directors of different departments of Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province attended the unveiling ceremony.

At the ceremony, Director Xing Xiaowei of Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province made a speech first. He pointed out that Lingnan College had profound academic deposits and strong research capabilities, and it had sent a large number of professionals to all walks of life, also provided powerful intellectual support to the decision-making of government departments at all levels. The foundation of the Statistics Research and Teaching Practice Base will not only deepen the cooperative relationship between both sides, but also further exert both sides’ respective advantages in statistics practice and research, so as to achieve the aim of drawing on each other’s comparative advantages and a mutually beneficial win-win situation.

In his speech, Professor Shu Yuan introduced the historical evolution and discipline constructions of Lingnan College, and expressed his sincere thanks to Director Xing Xiaowei’s support and help during the college’s application for the degree authorization of master’s degree in applied statistics. He stated that the unveiling of the base broadened the college’s teaching space, and it would become its platform to reinforce teaching practice and improve the students’ abilities to put what they have learned into practice. He hoped that with the aid of this platform, the two sides would establish all-round cooperation, give full play to respective advantages, and make great efforts to build this platform into a cooperation model of local government and universities supporting each other, sharing resources and achieving mutual development.

Soon afterwards, Director Xing Xiaowei and Shu Yuan unveiled the base together.

At last, the two sides had an informal discussion, vice director Peng Qipeng, vice dean Li Shenglan and vice dean Hu Jianxun put forward their visions for specific cooperation issues in the future.
