Two Papers Authored by SYSU Professors Ranked among China’s 100 Most Influential Dissertations

Recently, the Chinese Science and Technology Information Institute released the results of "China's 100 Most Influential dissertations (2008)" in the “2008 Chinese Science and Technological Papers Statistics Results Conference”. Dissertations authored by Prof. Weng Jianping, from the third affiliated hospital of SYSU, and Prof. Zhang Fujun, Cancer Center of SYSU, ranked respectively among the 100 most influential dissertations papers due for their high-frequency citations.

Published in the British medical journal The Lancet, the paper "Effect of intensive insulin therapy on beta-cell function and glycaemic control in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes: a multicentre randomised parallel-group trial", authored by Prof. Weng Jianping and his colleagues, was ranked among the “China’s 100 Most Influential International dissertations”, which was cited 13 times in 2008. The paper introduced the new model of treatment of type 2 diabetes, and proved that the intensive insulin therapy at an early stage could lead to better recovery and maintenance of β-cell’s function of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients. The academic outcomes would have a significant impact on the medical treatment and conception on the type 2 diabetes worldwide.

Published in the Chinese Journal of Radiology, the paper "CT guided radioactive seed 125I implantation in treating lung metastasis”, authored by Prof. Zhang Fujun, was ranked among the “China’s 100 Most Influential National dissertations”, which was cited 48 times. The paper comprehensively reviewed the treatment methods, safety and efficacy of the CT-guided radioactive seed implantation of lung metastases, and described a minimally invasive, safe and efficient treatment for lung metastasis.

The selection of "China's 100 Most Influential dissertations” is aimed at promoting the publishing of science and technological papers of strong impact and high academic caliber, improving the international influence of China’s science and technological papers, and guiding the shift of paper publishing model from quantity-centered to quality-centered. Since its first release in 2007, "China's 100 Most Influential dissertations” has attracted widespread attention in the academic community, and selected the most influential academic papers in China.
